Why
Louise?

Louise is named after a remarkable woman who grew up in care, battled severe abuse, and found herself alone in her teens. She didn’t benefit from the kind of support networks we champion today—yet she refused to let her past define her. Our agency exists to make sure no young person faces isolation like Louise did. By empowering those who work tirelessly for children, we help them reach more people, secure resources, and change lives.
Louise's story
Louise Allen was a foster child who endured a harrowing childhood in the 1970s. Her adoptive family never truly wanted her, and she suffered ongoing abuse that left her feeling utterly alone. At fifteen, she fled to a new city with no money, no friends, and no safety net. Through sheer determination and a love of art—she painted, drew, and embraced creativity—Louise built a new life from scratch.

Today, she’s a bestselling author of the Thrown Away Child memoirs and the Thrown Away Children series, which highlight the resilience of children in care. She regularly appears on TV and radio (BBC’s Front Row, Saturday Live, Loose Women, This Morning) to advocate for foster children’s rights. She also founded the charity Spark Sisterhood (sparksisterhood.org), creating employment pathways, mentoring programmes, and an online learning community for girls in or leaving care.
Louise is now happily married, fosters children herself, and works tirelessly to ensure that abused or neglected children don’t fall through the cracks. Her dedication to turning her own trauma into hope for others inspires everything we do—which is why 5% of our profits go directly to her charity, Spark Sisterhood.
